Kiln Technician Description:
Artspace Greenfield plans to open amunity clay studio in Fall 2025. The studio will offer classes and workshops for all ages and skill levels. In addition to seeking a core group of 4-8 ceramics faculty, we seek to hire a part-time Kiln Technician to perform regular firings and kiln maintenance. This is an exciting moment in Artspace’s 50+ year history, and an opportunity to be part of the launch of a brand-newmunity resource in Greenfield. As part of the core group in the studio’s start-up phase, the kiln technician will help execute the vision that Artspace has been working toward since early 2023. Before ing, please familiarize yourself with the project’s history and goals onthis page. The kiln technician will be responsible for the operation, care, and routine maintenance of an electric L&L e23T-3-240 kiln, typically bisque firing to Cone 06-04 and glaze firing to Cone 6 withmercial glazes. The kiln technician will oversee and operate the kiln, load and unload firings, perform routine maintenance, and help create and subsequently oversee the firing schedule. Since the studio is in its start-up phase, the kiln technician will also play a key role in helping establish studio operations.
Qualifications:
thorough understanding of and experience with electric kiln operation ability to help create, manage, and implement aplex schedule schedule flexibility, in order to amodate the firing needs of Artspace’s tbd ceramics class schedule experience firing beginners’ work willingness and technical capacity to monitor the kiln (wirelessly) during firings interest in and patience for being part of a start-up program an ethic ofmunity service and art as a fundamental human right
