$23.00 – $42.09 Commensurate with Experience SUMMARY The Radio System Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing radio communication systems and/or other in-vehicle technology supporting end users. This position is on- call as needed to respond to service-impacting conditions.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies radio systems and components and/or other in-vehicle technology. Sets up and uses test measurement, diagnostic equipment, and hand tools to ensure radio equipment is operating within established parameters. Build radio programming templates used to program radios used in public safety communications and other supported departments. Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and certifies mobile and handheld radars. Proficient using Customer Programming Software (CPS) to program Mobile and Portable radios. Interacts with end users to determine service needs and provide support. Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Use test measurement and diagnostic equipment Interpret programming resource documents Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment Basic electronics Radio installation standards Antenna wave propagation Radio Frequency theory Knowledge of EF Johnson, Harris and/or Motorola radios and programming software is a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 6
months+ training beyond High School in a vocational program specific to RF and Networking Less than one (1) year of experience in public safety, networking, and mobile communications Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities Required Licenses or Certifications Ability to obtain and maintain City driver’s permit Must obtain the General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) from the Federal Communications Commission within 12 months of employment OR possess a Certified Electronics Technician certificate issued by a Federal Communications Commission Commercial Operators License Examination Manager or by a laboratory established by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
