Job Description

Glass Studio Operations Manager – Morean Glass Studio Morean Arts Center 719 Central Avenue, Saint Petersburg, FL 33701 The Morean Arts Center in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida seeks a Glass Studio Operations Manager. This position requires at least 3 years of studio art glass and production arts operations/management experience. This full-time exempt (salaried) position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Morean Arts Center and is responsible for the daily operations of the Morean Glass Studio. As the key contact for the Glass Studio, this individual is responsible for all aspects of daily operations including but not limited to planning, scheduling, budgeting, education, public programming, and maintenance. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of creativity, energy, and initiative, as well as the capacity to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers and demonstration artists. He/she would encourage positive and creative working relationships across Morean departments and set clear results-oriented goals. Reports to and works with the CFO of the Morean Arts Center regarding facility maintenance, security, safety, custodial needs and purchasing. He/she has broad knowledge and experience in studio art production efforts and excellent decision-making ability, planning skills and initiative. This position oversees contracted demonstration artists, contracted faculty, a retail sales coordinator, and as needed a guest services team member trained in glass studio retail sales. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Leading day-to-day operations and collaborating with the CFO to develop short and long-term goals and objectives. Ensures adherence to long-term and operational goals and objectives and presents regular progress reports. Collaborating and communicating across all Morean departments including but not limited to the Education Department to develop, manage appropriate policies, classes, camps, workshops and other programs for the Glass Studio. Act as the point of contact for instructors and communicating needs to the Education Department. Working closing with the Visitor Experience Coordinator on the scheduling of groups to view glassblowing demonstrations. Understanding of revenue reports, P&L statements and all budgetary requirements. Revenue generation through activities and fundraising. Working closely with the CFO in preparing and managing the annual Glass Studio budget and continually monitoring to ensure operations are within established revenue and expense parameters. Identify, select, negotiate, direct and work with vendors, contractors and suppliers that provide services and products for the Glass Studio. Oversee, schedule and direct the demonstration artists and contracted faculty that use the Glass Studio facility. Establishing and maintaining cordial, professional, and productive relationships with instructors, artists, students, and staff. Developing, managing and mentoring the Glass Studio’s small staff, including a full-time Retail Sales Coordinator, and during tourist season and as necessary a guest services team member trained in glass studio retail sales. Empowering them to master and manage their areas of responsibility with accountability. Providing appropriate resources, encouragement, and acknowledgement of success; evaluate staff at least annually, more often if needed. Ensuring regular maintenance of the Glass Studio equipment and facility equipment with attention to public safety. Working closely with vendors, contractors and suppliers that provide services and products to the Glass Studio. Conducting routine inventories of equipment and glass studio stock. Tracking, maintaining, performing, and reporting inventories of Glass Studio equipment ensuring supplies do not run out. Contributing to the overall success of the institution as a member of the Morean’s Senior Staff.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree or higher in glass, studio art or related field desired but not required. Strong experience and skills in studio art glass and at least 3 years of management in a studio art glass production environment. Technical knowledge of glass materials, equipment repair and facilities. Ability to forecast, create, and manage budgets. Ability to provide or ensure regular maintenance of Glass Studio equipment and facilities with attention to public safety considerations. Strong organizational, project management and delegation skills required. Intermediate computer skills with ability to use Altru (the Morean’s customer relationship management software) and Windows Platform programs especially Outlook, Word and Excel. Excellent, proactive communication skills, both oral and written are essential as is the ability to manage others. The Morean Arts Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
