POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Graduate Assistant for Broadcasting – Department of Communication/WNZR Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service. Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University seeks a Graduate Assistant for the Department of Communication and the on-campus radio station, WNZR. Graduate Assistant appointments are made in collaboration with the Dean of GPS and the Director of Broadcasting. This position is 20-28 hours per week and is a full tuition benefit extending through the duration of the student’s Masters of Education program. Stipends, textbooks, and computers are not provided as part of the assistantship. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Director in producing MVNU Athletics, Chapel and community video projects on WNZR.TV and MVNU.TV
  • Lead student crew member for MVNU athletics live video production (selected M/W soccer, M/W volleyball, M/W basketball, lacrosse, softball and baseball)
  • Supervising and training students on all camera and graphics work before each broadcast
  • Supervising equipment and equipment check-out in the Founders Hall offices, including regular inventory of equipment
  • Lead student crew member as needed for MVNU chapel service live streams
  • Lead student crew member for community video productions (Food For The Hungry, local festivals) as needed
  • Manage and create content for the WNZR Sports/Voice of the Cougars social media account on Twitter and Instagram
  • Assisting in ordering new or replacement equipment as needed
  • Possible involvement in WNZR Radio as needed Qualifications needed:
  • Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience, and mission fit.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Sports Management or a related field
  • Must be enrolled in an MVNU graduate program
  • Must have a working, reliable vehicle to get to and from campus
  • Able to adjust working hours as needed based on classes and video activities on campus and in the community
  • Proficiency working with digital video cameras (will train further as needed)
  • Proficiency with video switchers, cameras and graphics software, such as NewTek TriCaster 450 and Mini, Wirecast, NewBlue Titler Live, iMovie and Final Cut Pro (will train further as needed)
  • Good organizational skills for equipment inventory and checkout to students
  • Must be a person of integrity and responsibility; able to work in partnership with MVNU Athletics, ITS/Campus Sound, and Campus Ministries To be considered for this position, please email a resume to MVNU.
