Job Description

SYMS Equipment Crew Head 2.5 2.5 out of 5 stars Durham, NH USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app Internal Candidates Exist The Equipment Crew Head will work with the Summer Youth Music School (SYMS) Camp Director to ensure the SYMS faculty, staff, and students have all equipment necessary for their rehearsals, classes, and performances. The Equipment Crew Head will oversee a staff of four to five Equipment Crew Members whom they will organize and delegate to complete the necessary tasks. The Crew Head will communicate frequently with the Camp Director about the needs of the Equipment Crew and forward any concerns about faculty requests or interactions with the crew. Because the Equipment Crew Head will work near minors for the duration of camp, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a background security check and a training module in the protection of minors. Duties/Responsibilities Assist in planning for SYMS (10%) Work with the Camp Director prior to the start of camp to identify the instruments and equipment necessary for all rehearsals, classes, and performances. If needed, assist the Camp Director in purchasing or otherwise acquiring the needed items. Direct the Equipment Crew’s activities (60%) Determine the work schedule and specific daily tasks for each member of the Equipment Crew, communicating their responsibilities to them in a clear and timely manner. When appropriate, respond to inquiries and requests for equipment from SYMS faculty members. Communicate problematic requests or interactions with faculty or any other SYMS staff to the Camp Director immediately. Participate in the Equipment Crew’s activities (30%) The Equipment Crew Head will also partake in the moving and preparing of equipment, in addition to directing Crew members. The Crew Head is expected to be appropriately engaged in the physical work alongside the Crew members themselves.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience :

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in music production roles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

Experience as a musician or music equipment crew member is a necessity for the job. The Crew Head must be highly knowledgeable regarding the proper care of musical instruments and the safest manner of transporting them, when necessary. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate well with others is required. Strong organizational skills are a necessity. Training and experience working with sound amplification and reinforcement systems is strongly desired.
