Assignment Editor RedBalloon LLC Smithville, MO 64089 Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Assignment Editor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in news editing. As an Editor, you will play a crucial role in finding and assigning stories, managing freelancers, producing original content, and editing submissions for our news publication. Mission Our mission is to improve the quality of K-12, Christ-centered education so families grow and flourish. We want to find gaps in Christian education to grow scalable programs throughout America. We want to facilitate programs, news, events, training, grants, and hands-on initiatives. Duties Work with editors to strategize about story angles and prioritize coverage Watch news sources and partner publications to find potential stories Assign freelancers/reporters to cover specific stories and events Track assignments progress and adjust plans as news develops Handle freelancer administration, including invoice approval Edit filed stories for publication, and release on our website Write news stories with original reporting as necessary Experience 3+ years of newsroom experience, including as a reporter Proficient editor Familiarity with AP Style and WordPress and simple photo editing Organized and deadline-oriented High attention to detail and able to follow instructions Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage other writers Clear communications skills and the ability to motivate and maintain accountability Self-motivated team player Curious reporter What We Offer Competitive annual salary Opportunities for growth within a mission-driven team Access to leading tools, training, and professional development Health benefits and 401(k) plan
