Job Description

Assistant Editor – HFD 2.7 2.7 out of 5 stars Greensboro, NC 27409

  • Remote This position will report to the Managing Editor and is responsible for writing copy, investigating stories and communicating industry news and trends to a Retail and Consumer Products audience (via print publication, online platforms, blogs, newsletters, social media, video and other as needed) in the B2B publishing community.

Duties +

Responsibilities:

Travel to industry conferences, trade shows, retail and vendor locations (determined by the strategic plan and/or audience needs – at a minimum 6-8 times annually) to meet with vendors, wholesalers and retailers, preview new products, develop social media content and write coverage relevant to the event; Act as a primary writer, including a regular column, blog, feature and news stories, posting to social media and websites, write news and product descriptions, including taking photo and video as appropriate. Cover writing and editing assignments for other writers when applicable; Work with the writing and editing team to create or drive editorial direction for the leading RetailConsumer Products publication; Assist editors in the ideation and execution of panels and presentations at industry and company conferences and events, including helping create agendas on relevant topics; Assist in executing production of the magazine in conjunction with the Managing Editor, page builder and production department; Work with the Art Director and Graphic Designers to visually present and package editorial content; Help to produce daily/other e-newsletters or articles with 5-10 topical industry news items, as well as breaking news when appropriate; Conduct page proofing when required; Create in depth multi-source coverage pieces that may require investigative journalism skills, with the ability to synthesize complex stories; and Develop strong working relationships with the RetailConsumer Products audience. Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field. Strong oral and written communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment Ability to travel approximately 10% – 20% of the time. Ability to lift approximately 10 pounds and work in an office environment. Strong personal computer skills with experience using Microsoft office suite of products Strong social media skills with an understanding, at a minimum, of using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn (and others as needed). Ability to conduct on-camera interviews with various industry subjects Desire to use increasingly progressive social media and mobile tools to create content for audience.
