Journalist/Asst. Editor Midlands Media Group Columbia, SC 29201 Midlands Media Group’s ColaDaily.com, a leading, local 24/7 local news platform for more than a decade, is seeking a motivated and tech-savvy Journalist/Assistant Editor to help us deliver free, vital content to our community through our website, newsletters, and social media.
Your Mission:
As a full-time journalist and assistant to the editor, you’ll be instrumental in executing our content strategy, identifying growth opportunities, and keeping our readers informed. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a knack for uncovering local stories, and be highly organized. You may also have the opportunity to deliver broadcast news updates for our radio partners, 94.3 The Dude and 93.1 The Lake.
Responsibilities:
Support and implement Cola Daily’s content strategy. Proactively seek out and develop engaging local news stories. Write, edit, and schedule daily content while ensuring factual, unbiased reporting. Support Editor with managing freelance contributors and their assignments. Timely editing and rewriting of submitted content. Stay informed on breaking news outside of regular hours. Prioritize and adapt to the dynamic news cycle. Possess excellent communication and editing skills. Utilize basic design, photography, and video skills.
Qualifications:
2+ years of writing experience; bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred. Strong self-motivation and a passion for finding compelling stories. Excellent organizational skills + a positive, professional attitude Proven ability to write unbiased, informative content in AP style. A collaborative mindset and openness to feedback. Proficient with technology and CMS platforms. Basic design, photography, and video skills. Availability to work nights/weekends as needed; flexibility for occasional outside events. Reliable transportation and internet access. Ability to pass a background check.
