Industrial Designer/Fabricator – Exhibits 4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars Huntsville, AL 35808 Join the exhibits department at Marshall Space Flight Center as a Junior Industrial Designer supporting the design, planning, fabrication, and installation of exhibit products and events.
Responsibilities:
Design and produce planning documents, event layouts, renderings, and fabrication plans using Solidworks and Keyshot CAD software Knowledge of Fusion 360 is a plus Alongside a team of skilled craftsmen, fabricate, assemble, and install exhibit products using high-fidelity modelmaking, cabinetry, and/or woodworking techniques Develop detailed and accurate fabrication drawings, along with Bill of Materials (BOMs), to provide to in-house and vendor fabricators Support event installations and teardowns, ensuring exhibits are safely transported, assembled and maintained Operate and maintain workshop tools Follow and enforce NASA and OSHA safety protocols throughout all aspects of the position Develop Job Hazard analyses to identify hazards and mitigation efforts related to those identified hazards Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design or related field Three (3) years of related experience Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Solidworks, and Keyshot Hands-on experience or training in a workshop environment Ability to lift heavy materials and operate machinery safely Willingness to travel for exhibit installations and events, occasionally during off-business hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in high-fidelity modelmaking, cabinetry, and fabrication Proficiency in 3D printing and laser cutters, among other standard woodshop tools Proficiency in Solidworks and Keyshot Fusion 360 would also be a plus Hands-on experience safely working in active woodshop and installation environments Able to consistently lift 50 lbs Forklift certification is a plus Candidate must be willing to become certified to operate a forklift if they are not already certified Willingness to travel for events and installations Firm understanding of translating a concept to a fabricated object Strong communication skills and technological know-how
