Costume Designer and Prop Manager Scope of Role:
This is a Part Time, salaried, exempt position supporting theater productions for Middle and Upper School. This involves a high degree of collaboration and relationship building with other Fine Arts teachers, staff, and students. The weekly and monthly hours of the position will vary based upon production needs and sometimes requires work on nights and weekends. The role is to create or oversee the selection and creation of costumes and props for several identified theater productions and competitions and support those productions backstage.
Major Responsibilities:
Read scripts and collaborate with the theater team to design costumes and plan props for 5 shows during the school year.
Fall:

Upper School Musical and Middle School Musical Maintain, organize, and add to the CFA costume and accessory inventory: Build costumes from scratch Complete alterations to costumes Rent additional costumes on a per show basis as necessary. Maintain, organize, and add to the CFA prop inventory: Pull props from scene shop prop storage and inventory Shop for props and set decoration as needed Build, create, and develop props as necessary Prepare and organize costumes and props for efficient and effective use before, during, and after tech weeks. Assist with costumes, hair and make-up design, dressing room supervision and management, and microphones backstage during productions/performances.

Qualifications:
Be knowledgeable in the design and construction of costumes for a wide range of theater productions. Be knowledgeable in the acquisition and construction of props for a wide range of theater productions. Have a passion for working with and supporting Middle and Upper School theater students. Have knowledge, skill and organizational ability to coordinate performances backstage. Have a commitment to contributing to a community that values equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in subject area or related field preferred.
Experience:
Three or more years of participation in school or community theater and a portfolio that demonstrates expertise in selecting and designing costumes and props.
