Thayer Homes is a residential home building company based in Raleigh, NC, building 25 to 40 homes per year. We are known for delivering thoughtfully designed homes with lasting value. In addition to our new construction homes, we also maintain a portfolio of high-quality furnished rentals. We are seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and collaborative Interior Designer to support our Lead Interior Designer and play an integral role in both our new home builds and furnished rental setups.
Position Overview:
As an Interior Designer at Thayer Homes, you will assist in selecting finishes and fixtures for all homes, creating design boards, working with vendors, and coordinating with our field team to ensure design intent is executed on-site. You’ll also help source new vendors and negotiate pricing to ensure we stay on the cutting edge of design while maintaining budget efficiency. Additionally, you’ll assist in designing and furnishing our furnished rental properties to be move-in ready, handling everything from major furniture pieces to everyday essentials. For pre-sales and custom builds, you will work directly with homeowners to guide them through the selection process, helping turn their vision into reality.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Lead Interior Designer to make selections for all new construction homes (tile, flooring, cabinets, lighting, paint colors, etc.) Create and present design boards for each home to guide selection and styling Source new vendors and materials, obtain updated pricing, and maintain vendor relationships Coordinate closely with field teams and vendors to ensure selections are implemented accurately and on time Assist in setting up furnished rental properties, including sourcing and placing: Furniture and décor Bedding and towels Kitchenware and household essentials Work with homeowners on selections for pre-sale and custom homes, offering guidance on finishes and options Maintain a library of samples and update product availability and pricing regularly Conduct site visits as needed to verify installation accuracy and quality
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a related field ( required ) Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in residential interior design Experience with new construction design and client-facing selection processes is a plus Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency in design software and tools (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Canva, etc.) Excellent communication skills with both internal teams and external vendors Ability to work independently and manage multiple ongoing projects Must be comfortable working both in the field and from home
