Position Overview Are you a skilled and certified Sign Language Interpreter passionate about making education accessible for all students—without the commute? We’re looking for a dedicated professional to join our dynamic virtual team, providing real-time interpreting services to K-12 students across Alabama. This fully remote position offers the flexibility of working from home while playing a vital role in fostering communication and inclusion for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. You’ll collaborate with educators, families, and school staff via a secure teletherapy platform to support student learning and engagement in the classroom. Key Responsibilities Provide accurate and effective real-time interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) during virtual classroom instruction, meetings, and school events. Adapt interpreting style and techniques to match student needs, age, and educational setting. Support communication between students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel in academic and extracurricular environments. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions. Collaborate with educators and IEP teams to ensure interpreting services align with student goals and accommodations. Participate in virtual IEP meetings as needed, contributing valuable insights to support student access and success. Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Interpretation or related field (preferred). Valid state or national certification (such as EIPA score of 3.5+ or RID certification). Current Alabama licensure or eligibility to obtain appropriate credentials.

Preferred:

At least 1-2 years of school-based interpreting experience. Proficient in ASL and familiar with educational terminology and settings. Tech-savvy and comfortable using digital tools and video conferencing platforms. Reliable, organized, and able to work independently in a remote environment. Technology Requirements High-speed, reliable internet connection. Desktop or laptop computer (tablets and Chromebooks are not supported).
