Provides on-site andtelephone interpretation services in a Foreign Language and Englishfor patients, patient families, physicians, and care givers.
Provides interpreting services and document translation services asneeded for Limited English Proficient / Non English Proficient(LEP/NEP) patients and their families, works to support PatientFamily Centered Care, and ensures focus on customer service. Workswith all age-specific populations including neonates, infants,children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics patients. What youwill do Performs a variety of interpreting and translation servicesto assist foreign language-speaking patients receiving care atMethodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Provides information on hospitaland community resources. Assists departments in the interface withLEP/NEP patients. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Formal Training Requirements High School Diploma orEquivalent Work Experience Requirements 1-3 years Healthcareenvironment Licenses and Certifications Requirements CertifiedMedical Interpreter – National Board of Certification for MedicalInterpreters Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Evidence of fluency inEnglish and the foreign language. Demonstrated ability to serve asa medical interpreter with ability to speak, read, and write inEnglish and the foreign language and interpret/translate from theforeign language to English and vice-versa. Ability to useMicrosoft applications (such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint).Ability to work without close supervision and to exerciseindependent judgment. Ability to maintain working relationshipswith physicians, directors, co-workers, and other Associates.
Ability to set priorities, organize and coordinate multiple tasks,and maintain control of workflow. Ability to work effectively insituations of high stress and conflict. Supervision Provided bythis Position There are no supervisory or lead responsibilitiesassigned to this position. Physical Demands The physical activitiesof this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing,walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitivemotion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physicalrequirements of this position are: light work – exerting up to 25lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of forcefrequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuityto perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data andfigures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensivereading. The conditions to which the Associate will be subject inthis position: The Associate is not substantially exposed toadverse environmental conditions; job functions are typicallyperformed under conditions such as those found in general office oradministrative work. May be exposed to infectious disease. Mustprovide own transportation for local travel among hospitals andother sites for interpretation.
