Position Summary Interprets for the organization (communicates orally from English to a foreign language and vice versa). Helps facilitate successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse consumers. •Work schedule will be Monday – Friday, flexible hours starting from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Responsibilities:

Essential Functions Provides in-person interpreting services to Limited English Proficiency patients/families and providers during clinical and non-clinical encounters at different medical specialties in English and in a second language; in a confidential, accurate and impartial way aintaining professional and ethical standards of interpreting. Provides sight interpretation as needed of medical consent forms, patient and family education materials, and any other as assigned. Selects the appropriate modality of interpreting based on the patient provider encounter (audio, video, or in-person interpreting). Documents and keeps records of the sessions between providers and Limited English proficient patients/families. Assists with language services tools (troubleshooting, connectivity, and training of interpreter iPads and phones). Explains interpreting services resources, make appropriate referrals; serve as a cultural and linguistic liaison to both patients and providers to contribute to successful outcomes. Coordinates, schedules and dispatches in-person interpreters to different locations using Orlando Health scheduling system. Monitors requests for in-person interpretation services from clinics and coordinates services based on language needs, appointment times, and interpreter expertise. Assigns in-person interpreters based on the specific medical context. Coordinates internal and external interpreter services for urgent situations or immediate patient needs. Collaborates with leaders to maximize the clinics in-person interpreting services. Assists with interviews, new interpreters’ recruitment and onboarding, including conducting assessments of their language proficiency. Under the direction of the Supervisor/Manager, provides mentoring/training to new interpreters. Supports the team with office duties as assigned. Shadows the Interpreter level I and provides feedback on performance. Utilizes on-line computer systems such as Outlook, and other facility hospital software. As a self-motivated Team Member, the individual must adhere to all Standards of Behavior, exhibit excellent customer service skills, and capable of functioning and working in a cohesive team environment. Adheres to professional standards and ethical guidelines for accurate interpretation. Maintainsreasonably regular, punctual attendanceconsistent withOrlandoHealthpolicies,theADA, FMLA, andotherfederal,state, and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions None.

Qualifications:

Education/Training Associate degree required Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Medical interpreting training preferred Fully bilingual: speaking/writing/reading. Licensure/Certification A Medical Interpreting National Certification Issued by either The National Board for Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) required within twelve (12) months of hire. Experience Fluency in English and one or more foreign languages: speaking, oral and written, as validated by a formal language assessment. Knowledge of specialized (varies based on medical specialty) medical vocabulary in English and in a second language. Knowledge of the interpreter professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics preferred 1 -2 years of medical interpreting preferred.
