Job Description

Medical Interpreter and Translator 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 260 Elm Street, Cumming, GA 30040 Job Purpose The Lead Medical Interpreter provides English/Spanish interpretation services to patients in order to facilitate effective and accurate communication between Medical Provider and Patient, along with filling gaps of coverage for the Medical Interpreter role. Lead Medical Interpreter provides services to those patients who need assistance with communication in order to receive comprehensive health care. The Lead Medical Interpreter will be charged with mentoring, coaching and observing all Medical Interpreter staff to ensure continuity of services provided. Reports to Clinical Support Manager. Duties and Responsibilities Performs Quarterly Medical Interpreter performance observations by shadowing the Medical Interpreters to ensure continuity of services being provided. Assists the Clinical Support Manager in annual performance evaluations for the Medical Interpreter by providing Medical Interpreting Assessments of the specific Medical Interpreter during patient encounters. Along with Clinical Support Manager, acts as a liaison or resource for Medical Interpreter staff to assist with patient or Medical Interpreter conflict resolution. Coordinates and facilitates annual Medical Interpreter Inservice training day. Assists Clinical Support Manager in the interview process and evaluation of potential new Medical Interpreter staff along with the training of all newly hired Medical Interpreters. Serves as the Float Medical Interpreter as needed to fill gaps in coverage due to MI staff absences. Participates in the Care Team by actively being involved in pre-visit planning, morning huddles, and patient follow-ups as required. Participates on Patient-Centered Medical Home team activities and all other quality initiatives. Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives for clinical support staff members at GHMS, including the use of the Plan, Do, Study, Act cycle, the Care Model and other QI methodologies. Provides patients with access to medical providers and other clinical staff by interpreting between English and Spanish in the clinical office setting. Assists patients by interpreting forms or making phone calls for referral specialists and/or other outside medical procedures. Provides access to medical providers and other clinical staff by answering Spanish language message line, interpreting these messages and assigning telephone encounter to appropriate staff member. Reports test results to patients, both English speaking and Spanish speaking. Relays instructions from Provider on follow-up to these tests. Assists patients in communicating with pharmacy regarding medications or refill related questions. Refers patients to in-house Community Health Worker or in-house Patient Assistance Program as needed. Assists Nurse in tracking critical patients with abnormal test results and ensuring patients adhere to tracking needs. Scans patient documents into EMR. Provides/relays educational information to Diabetic patients regarding follow-up care and insulin use. Supplies patients with resource information regarding Diabetes. Assists in rooming patients as needed. Completes intake chart information and obtains vital signs using electronic monitor. Follows Corporate, Ethical, and HIPAA policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality of all patient information. Effectively practices teamwork, respect for coworkers, good attendance and punctuality. Properly requests time off as needed per GHMS policies and procedures. This is an in-office position, and does not qualify for remote work. Other duties as assigned to promote optimal healthcare to patients of GHMS. Qualifications Education / Experience High School graduate required 1-3 years’ experience interpreting in a clinical setting preferred Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) certification a plus Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Ability to accurately and effectively speak and interpret both English and Spanish. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology in order to properly interpret and translate healthcare information. Excellent Customer Service skills in order to provide superior customer service to the patients of GHMS. Knowledge of computer software, Email, telephone system, word processing, and EMR software.
