40 hours, Monday-Friday 8:30 am -5:00 pm
Pay:
$23.48 per hour – DOE
LOCATION
: 444 Harrison Ave, 363 Albany Street, community locations; travel is required depending on the living situation of persons being served. Most residences are located within Greater Boston
SUMMARY OF POSITION
: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Interpreter to support our homeless services team by providing professional language interpretation for Haitian-Creole and/or French speaking clients. This role involves assisting clients in understanding their rights, accessing services, and navigating various social, medical, and legal systems in a safe and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, skilled in both language interpretation and understanding the unique challenges faced by homeless populations
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
Language Proficiency :
Fluent in Haitian-Creole and/or French, both written and spoken, with the ability to interpret and translate accurately in both languages. Additional language skills are a plus.
Cultural Competence :
Knowledge of cultural differences and the ability to adapt communication style to effectively engage with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Flexibility :
Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing client needs, schedules, and priorities.
Certification :
Certification from a recognized interpreting body (e.g., ATA, NBCMI, or others) is preferred but not required.
Empathy & Compassion :
A strong desire to help vulnerable populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness, and an understanding of the unique challenges they face.
Communication Skills :
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both the target language(s) and English. Ability to explain complex information clearly and understandably.
Experience :
Minimum of 1 (one) of experience in interpreting, translation, or a similar role, preferably in a social services, healthcare, or legal setting. Experience working with homeless populations is a strong plus.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
REQUIRED:
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED
BA in Human Services related field
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
Minimum of 1 (one) year of experience in interpreting, translation, or a similar role, preferably in a social services, healthcare, or legal setting.
PREFERRED
Experience working with homeless populations is a strong plus.
