GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The candidate is also responsible for the provision of quality interpreting services for the deaf and hard of hearing students on the Raymond Campus.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- EDUCATION
AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- RID, NAD OR MS Quality Assurance Screening certification level III or above. AAS degree from an Interpreter Training Program or three years educational interpreting experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- , include the following.
Be able to interprets, transliterate from spoken language into the appropriate visual language mode and at times from visual language into spoken language. Interpreters will be responsible for interpreting in classrooms, shop/lab classes, tutorial and school sponsored activities and events, workshops, meetings and other activities as assigned. Attend staff meetings and interpreter in-service meetings. Demonstrate professional development by upgrading and maintaining interpreting skills by attending professional development workshops, activities and utilizing the skill building lab located in the Interpreting Services office. Understand and professionally comply with the appropriate Code of Ethics of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Incorporated and Hinds Community College. Membership in national and/or local professional interpreter organizations preferred. Prepare for assignments by reviewing notes and syllabi, previewing texts, and meeting with presenters, faculty, tutors, or students. Ability to function as a team member. Provide information to instructors, students, and staff on how to maximize benefits from interpreting services.

- Demonstrating a positive relationship toward students and staff and be able to recognize and respond appropriately to individual differences.
Be dependable, reliable, honest and punctual in carrying out assigned duties. Be able to work under adverse working conditions; such as, long periods of interpreting, sitting or standing, constantly changing schedule, and various classroom, shop, and lab settings. Assist Program Coordinator in providing outreach and technical assistance to postsecondary programs. Assist Program Transition Specialist during the Summer Transition Program as needed. Perform all duties pertaining to the program and student interest as directed by the Lead Interpreter. Other duties assigned.
