This full-time position in Albany, NY, offers a unique opportunity to serve middle school students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by providing both sign language interpreting and direct teaching services. You will work closely with individual students as a 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter while also fulfilling responsibilities as a Teacher of the Deaf. This contract role is designed for the new school year (NSY).

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 sign language interpreting services to support effective communication between students, educators, and peers Teach and support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using specialized instructional strategies Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to ensure inclusion and accessibility Maintain accurate documentation of interpreting and instructional activities Promote language development, social skills, and academic progress

Qualifications:

Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter in New York State Credential or certification as a Teacher of the Deaf or hard of hearing students Experience working with middle school-aged children in educational settings Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
