The Interpreting & Translation (I&T) Program at Journey’s End offers high-quality, in-person interpretation, VRI and OPI services as well as document translation services in over 55 languages needed to do business in a global society. These services are ideal for health care and medical providers, schools and universities, human services and non-profit organizations, law firms, government entities and beyond. Importantly, the I&T Program advocates for the expansion of language access in NYS and removal of barriers faced by limited English proficient individuals.

Job Description:

The Translations Coordinator is responsible for managing the workflow of written translation assignments and customer inquiries, communicating with translators and customers, ensuring the timely return of projects, and quality control measures. Additional responsibilities include assisting with translator trainings, creating vital documents and materials to support the program, and developing new strategies to maintain high quality, accurate translations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage intake of new translation inquiries, create customer quotes, and assign qualified translators. Conduct quality control checks on all translations and return finished projects in a timely manner. Track all active and completed translation assignments to ensure accurate customer billing and reporting data. Collaborate with program leadership to create linguist orientations and trainings by developing PowerPoints and training materials and delivering annual translation trainings. Onboard and train new translators. Support interpreter scheduling as needed by activating new customer requests, communicating with interpreters, and answering phones. Other duties as assigned.

Workflow:

90% – Translation coordination and workflow management, translator training and support, communication with customers regarding translation services and quote inquiries, and development of vital program materials. 10% – Administrative tasks: Support interpreter scheduling and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

1-3 years’ experience in language services, document translation, office administration, business, marketing, customer service or a similar field. Prior experience with document translation, editing, or subtitling preferred. Superior computer skills including Microsoft Office Suites and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with InDesign, Canva or similar products, preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to problem solve and operate in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Bilingual skills preferred but not required. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively within a small, close-knit team. Strong interest in working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, knowledge of Buffalo’s refugee communities, and desire to improve language access for LEP individuals Please note: Journey’s End operates on a 35 hour work week.
