Category Schools – Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A full-time position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter and Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at a middle school setting in Schenectady, NY. This role involves providing one-on-one interpreting services as well as serving as a Teacher of the Deaf. The assignment covers the entire New School Year on a contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver 1:1 sign language interpreting services to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in classroom settings and related activities. Teach and develop educational plans that meet the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring accessibility and engagement. Collaborate with school staff to implement appropriate accommodations and support services. Maintain student confidentiality and advocate for the needs of students with hearing impairments. Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.

Qualifications:

Current New York State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and/or Sign Language Interpreter. Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and fluent in English. Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing middle school students. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work full time within a school environment.
