QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma required.
Must provide proof of the completion of a minimum of 60 college credit hours, OR in lieu of this, must pass the Para Professional Exam.
JOB SUMMARY
Demonstrate proficiency in both English and the home language. Accurately communicate school information and terminology in the home language. Communicate effectively with students, families, and school/district staff in a variety of professional and confidential settings both virtually and in person. Communicate common parent concerns and problems to school/district staff. Write accurately using the standard conventions of the English language and the home language. Maintain all required records, reports, logs, and confidential information, as required in a timely manner.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an interpreter to Spanish speaking families for district office staff, school administrators, and teachers.
Translate district documents and information for Spanish speaking families, in a timely manner.
Attend requested meetings, including IEP, 504, IGPs, etc.
Directly support school office staff with school registration process. Identifies related resources available for Hispanic families within the community and shares the information, as needed, with the school administrators/guidance department.
Identify and communicate district resources available for Spanish speaking families.
Support parent engagement programs and events throughout the district, including family literacy initiatives.
Maintain activity and services logs for data collection and accountability.
Maintains a monthly calendar of all visits with families, contact with school families, meetings and activities pertaining to job responsibilities to include sick leave and personal leave.
Responds to requests for information using translation skills as needed.
Types letters, forms, and other documents as needed using translation skills.
Stay up to date on relevant district information and processes, initiatives, and educational and technology terminology.
Maintain educational assessment materials and data for use by district- and school-level personnel.
Maintain professional confidentiality in accordance with district guidelines.
Demonstrates and displays warmth, empathy, and sensitivity in all contacts with parents, school staff, and community representatives using translation skills as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
