Full Job Description Job Summary:
This position is designed to be an ambassador for the Aquarium through a variety of on-site and off-site educational programs. Duties include leading curriculum based programs, participating in offsite outreaches, hosting sleepover programs, supporting daily education and interpretive programs and engaging with guests.
Essential Functions:
Provide an exceptional visitor experience for all guests Engage guests through daily shows, guided tours, and gallery interpretation Implement K-12 school programs for groups of visiting students Participate in outreach programs Host sleepovers for school groups, scouts and Aquarium members Assist in member and community programs SCA 1st Responder Adhere to the South Carolina Aquarium Policies Other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Outstanding interpretive skills Ability to work with audiences of all ages Must be able to give interpretive talks to groups of 10-200 people Skills needed to combine creativity, enthusiasm, and exemplary teaching methods to engage visitors in science related activities Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal Must be a team player and self-motivated Ability to maintain a sense of humor Must be able to handle live animals Professional image required Must have a working knowledge of Aquarium exhibits and animals Ability to work weekends and evenings Education and Experience Required Minimum of one year of experience in a related field with demonstrated teamwork and interpretive skills
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Driver’s License First Aid, CPR, and AED Required to either possess or obtain prior to start date Supervision of others:
N/A Physical Requirements:
Often standing, carrying up to 50 lbs and driving, sitting; average walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, balancing, pushing and pulling, crawling, computer and phone tasks.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment, public contact, rotating shifts, weekends and required to wear a radio; outdoor work required.
