The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and demonstrate the ability to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa. This role is essential in various settings, including educational institutions. Duties Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals in real-time. Translate ASL back into spoken language for hearing individuals, ensuring clarity and accuracy. Collaborate with Students & Educators to understand their specific communication needs and preferences. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive information. Adapt interpreting techniques based on the context of the conversation and the needs of the participants. Stay updated on best practices in interpreting and advancements in linguistics related to sign language. Skills Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required. Strong understanding of linguistics and the nuances of both signed and spoken languages. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to convey messages accurately. Ability to interpret complex concepts clearly and effectively for diverse audiences. Experience in various interpreting settings (educational, medical, community) is a plus. Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and facilitate comfortable interactions. Flexibility to adapt to different environments and varying levels of communication needs.
