Position Summary:

The Referral Specialist will support the clinical site with all phone contact for referral appointments. Schedule specialty referrals to include diagnostic and imaging referral appointments to internal and external specialty providers. Follows-up with specialty providers as needed regarding appointment availability, pricing, special accommodations for patients, etc. Document appropriately in electronic health record and notify patients of appointment information.

Principles Responsibilities:

Uses good judgment when providing patient care. Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected. Observes courtesy standards through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions and pleasant voice tone when in contact with co-workers, providers, patients and visitors. Communicates appropriately and clearly to patients and co-workers. Works effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type. Maintains composure when confronted with job stress or emergency situations. Adapts well to change in the work place. Consistent and concise lines of authority and responsibility are maintained. Responsibilities will include making medical referral appointments to agencies/entities outside of Eau Claire Cooperative. Maintains confidentiality of patients, staff and department information at all times

Education & Experience :

High school diploma or equivalent, required. Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience as a referral specialist. Familiar with pediatric and adult referrals, required. Must have experience with authorizations/pre-certification; medical terminology, CPT and diagnosis coding, insurance verification and updates. Certificate or an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited Medical Assisting Program in the State of South Carolina, a plus. Individuals who are Bilingual/Bicultural are encouraged to apply. Physical Demands Prolonged periods sitting or standing Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Be able to sit, stand, stoop, squat for extended periods of time throughout the day. Standing or walking for extended periods throughout the day.
