DUTIES AND

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach up to six credit hours per term, as needed, in the Creative Arts Enterprise major, including Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, Theatre History, Dramatics Laboratory, Lighting, Special Topics in Theatre, and other related courses.
Serve as Technical Director for theatre, music, art, and Academic Affairs in coordination with A/V Specialist, as needed.

Theatre:

2 productions per academic year.

Music:

2-4 performances per academic year.

Art:

occasional art display support, as needed.
Academic Affairs events, such as Commencement, Honors Day, and others as needed.
Coordinate with production/event director to create, manage, and maintain production schedules, budgeted and actual costs, with respect to scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and properties.
Coordinate with production/event director to create and maintain production calendar for all rehearsals, productions, and performances in the Creative Arts Enterprise major.
Coordinate with the production/event director to ensure all events are posted/promoted on the appropriate university calendars.
In coordination with Audio Video (A/V) Specialist, serve as Technical Director for a variety of events in campus facilities and maintain the scene/costume shops, storage areas, stage spaces (including the theatrical rigging system), equipment, supplies, and tools for campus facilities: UWA Auditorium, Bridges Auditorium, UWA Blackbox Theatre, UWA Amphitheater, Bell Conference Center, and other facilities as needed.
Oversee and promote safety in all activities, including safety with respect to students, faculty and staff, audiences, and patrons.
Train and supervise student workers.
Participate in department meetings and all other department, division, campus, and college committees as assigned.
Advise and recruit prospective students.
Attend conferences as requested.
Make strategic decisions with good judgment and an emphasis on innovative/creative problem-solving.
Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Theatre.
Experience/robust skills in set construction.
Working knowledge of lighting technology, sound systems, manual fly systems, and troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment.
Understanding of industry-standard safety practices and protocols.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
Ability to work nights and weekends.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb ladders, and use mechanical lifts.
Strong artistic sense, organizational skills, and ability to set and meet deadlines.
Organized, flexible, and adaptable proactive approach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

MFA in Design and Technology or MFA in Technical Direction.
Technical theatre experience.
Experience as a technical director for theatre and music productions.
A record of effective teaching in higher education.
Experience managing students, including scholarship and work-study students.
