Job Description
Summary
Theater technicians are generally responsible for the backstage area, including serving as stagehands, Stage Managers, and performing audio and lighting technicians’ duties. Including but not limited to the setup and strike of lighting/sound equipment, construction of scenery for the Fine Arts department, the general University, and public functions held in the Broad Auditorium.
The incumbent must be aware of the surroundings and any safety hazards.
This is a temporary assignment
Essential Functions
The Theater Technician will assist with the operation of sound and/or lighting equipment:
Setting up and operating sound and light equipment.
Maintaining general upkeep of equipment.
Organizing equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
The Theater Technician will assist in maintaining the facility clean, safe and organized:
Follow all established policies regarding cleanliness, safety, and proper disposal of materials.
Securing facilities, working materials, and tools after each day’s work.
The Theater Technician will assist with event rig, preparation, and Theatre restoration.
This includes reweighing rigs, repainting the stage, restoring the everyday house light plot, and restacking materials.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications/Requirements
High school diploma or GED is required.
Vocational or technical training in Technical Theatre is preferred.
1-3 years of work-related experience is required.
Must be able to follow set/light plots and instructions.
Knowledge of sound and light board.
Must be able to handle tools and machinery in a safe manner.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
