The right candidate should be experienced in newsroom leadership, possess strong journalistic integrity, and have a reputation for encouraging and developing strong talent. Experience and understanding of digital strategies that deliver information to consumers leading to growth of the brand and viewer loyalty is expected. The qualifying candidate must be passionate about local news with a strategic focus on strengthening the quality of local news reporting. A desire to develop, maintain and grow community contacts and relationships is mandatory. The ideal candidate should seek to build and maintain a newsroom environment that reflects WAAY-TV’s true team mentality, driven by a culture of mutual respect of co-workers and a desire to be the best. We aim to raise the bar of performance through perpetuating a culture ingrained in the belief that perfection is the goal and excellence will be tolerated. Experience in a mid-size newsroom is preferred. A background check and pre-employment drug screen are required. Lead a team of dedicated individuals who will join their leader in focusing on development of one of the region’s premier newsrooms, rooted in journalistic integrity and serving news consumers at North Alabama’s ABC network affiliate. WAAY-TV is a legacy station with a history of service to the region, one of the most recognized local television brands.
