Job Description

Director of Racquet Sports The Country Club of Orlando 1601 Country Club Drive, Orlando, FL 32804 Company Overview The Country Club of Orlando, established in 1911, is one of Florida’s largest and oldest country clubs. Spanning over 166 acres, the Club features a renovated 18-hole golf course designed by Donald Ross, twelve tennis courts, eight pickle ball courts (to be added in Oct. 2025), a junior-Olympic sized swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art wellness center. We are dedicated to providing exceptional service and a family-oriented atmosphere. Summary A Director of Racquet Sports is responsible for all aspects of a racquet sports, including developing and implementing programming, managing staff and resources, and ensuring a positive and welcoming environment for players of all levels. This role may also involve providing instruction, overseeing tournaments, exhibitions, clinics, and lessons while ensuring the program meets budget objectives and member satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

Plans and directs instructional racquet sports programming. Both provides and helps to facilitate lessons and clinics relating to the techniques and strategies of tennis to members and guests. Organizes, administers, and officiates at tournaments, exhibitions, and inter- and intra-club social events. Administers and enforces club tennis policies and procedures regarding play on Club courts. Performs light equipment repairs. Coordinates maintenance repair and cleaning of courts with court maintenance staff, facilities, and grounds departments. Writes and edits all tennis-related news for the Club Newsletter and includes photos, when possible. Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates the Tennis Professional and other tennis staff. Works with the Pro Shop Merchandiser to manage the Tennis Pro Shop. Ensures all charge tickets from the Tennis Pro Shop are transferred to the accounting department. Develops the budget for the

Tennis Department:

takes corrective action as necessary to help ensure that goals are met. Ensures that all Club members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to all their tennis needs. Assists in directly marketing the tennis facilities to members and guests. Develops a detailed annual calendar of tennis activities and applicable promotion campaigns during the tennis season. Maintains a close working relationship with other Club professionals. Attends all staff meetings and management meetings, as necessary. Maintains an accurate record of all lessons and clinics given. Inspects and maintains all physical areas of the Tennis Department constantly to ensure aesthetic and safety standards are being met. Participates on all committees related to the Tennis Operation. Represents the Club in professional tennis activities, as required. Also represents the Club at state and national tennis events, with approval from the Club. Performs any other duties as assigned by the

General Manager Required Competencies/Skills:

Must be able to always convey information clearly and in a professional manner, both written and verbally. Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure and be able to effectively advise staff and management in situations such as accidents, grievous policy violations, etc. Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining the required standards of operation. Must be willing to take initiative and anticipate, prevent, prioritize, identify, and solve problems as necessary to ensure the highest level of service. Must be able and willing set the example of compliance with all CCO Employee policies, including punctual attendance and personal appearance standards.

Required Experience:
U.S.P.T.A.

Member at Professional One Level College Graduate 8 years in teaching/Pro Shop retail business

Active Player Measures of Performance:

90 Day Review and Annual Review, as directed by the policies in The Country Club of Orlando Employee Handbook. Member Participation Data.

Work Environment:

40% indoor work environment with central A/C. The Director of Racquet Sports will be expected to spend roughly 60% of their time outdoors playing tennis, teaching lessons, and engaging with the membership.

Physical Requirements:

Flexible and long hours sometimes required. Must be able to sit or stand for an 8-hour shift and lift, push, or pull 50 lbs. Must be able to run, jog, and squat. Must be able to handle all of the physical requirements of continued tennis play.

Expected Hours of Work:

The Director of Racquet Sports is expected to use their judgement to create a schedule of work that allows them to complete all necessary tasks and be available to the membership and their staff. Forty-five hours per week is expected, and the chosen schedule must be relatively stable to allow management and membership to feel they are dependable and accessible.

Education/Training Requirements:

Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office Suite Products, Clubessential back-office database, and POS System.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience in the Club industry preferred This is a salaried exempt position with a great opportunity for lessons and clinics commission.
