Director of Commercial Underwriting:
Leadership and Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team of underwriters and inspection professionals. Provide ongoing guidance, training, and support to enhance team productivity, performance, and development.
Underwriting Strategy Development:
Develop and implement underwriting strategies, policies, and guidelines that align with the company’s goals and risk management objectives. Continually assess and adjust strategies based on market conditions and company priorities. Manage and cultivate a strong relationship with the reinsurance team, ensuring seamless collaboration on underwriting processes and strategic initiatives.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Act as a key stakeholder in decision-making processes related to underwriting, inspections, and overall business objectives. Provide valuable input on user stories, ensuring alignment between underwriting strategies and the company’s broader initiatives.
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and industry standards. Oversee the implementation of underwriting procedures to mitigate risk and ensure sound decision-making in all underwriting operations.
Reporting & Performance Metrics:
Develop and maintain underwriting performance metrics and reports to track the effectiveness of strategies, team performance, and overall departmental success. Provide regular updates and recommendations to the VP of Commercial Underwriting.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Partner with sales, marketing, claims, and other departments to ensure alignment and to achieve business objectives. Provide underwriting support for product development, pricing, and claims handling.
Process Improvement & Innovation:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the underwriting and inspection teams. Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and innovation to enhance operational efficiency.
Customer Focus:
Ensure that underwriting decisions are customer-centric while balancing risk and profitability. Foster relationships with key clients and partners, ensuring that underwriting practices meet their needs and expectations. What we are looking for in a
Director of Commercial Underwriting:
Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial underwriting 5 years of leadership experience Insurance related Designation in Property and Casualty Insurance is required. CPCU, CIC or
AINS API
