SUMMARY:

The Director, Commercial Underwriting primarily supports the activities of the Commercial Loan Group and the SCO. This position will be responsible for overseeing the independent underwriting process of new and renewed commercial loans, the development of new commercial credit analysts and underwriters, and the ongoing efficiency of commercial underwriting activities for a best in class member experience. Commercial loans being underwritten under the direction of the Director, Commercial Underwriting will include income producing real estate properties, commercial loans, participations, and other loan types as needed. All underwriting will be consistent with predefined criteria and Commercial Lending policy and guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director, Commercial Underwriting will work in a team environment collaborating closely with deal team members during the origination and structuring of new commercial opportunities and will develop new commercial credit analysts and underwriters as needed. Conduct in-depth review of balance sheets, income statements and tax returns, business plans and projections to assess ability to generate income sufficient to repay existing and proposed debt. Calculate global cash flow and prepare projections when appropriate. Identify risks and assist in structuring the loan to mitigate risks. Assign risk ratings. Prepare loan approvals for committee presentation. Document business background, outline risk factors/mitigants and justify assigned risk rating, ensuring conformity with Georgia’s Own credit policy and guidelines and with applicable credit union regulations. Review construction contracts, leases, appraisals, environmental assessment reports, UCC searches, flood determinations, insurance policies and other relevant information to assess risks associated with the credit union’s collateral position. Assist the SCO with commercial underwriting projects as needed. Lead the ongoing development of processes, procedures and additional underwriting tools in the Sageworks Commercial Loan Operating System. Approve commercial loans within designated Board approved limits and as directed by the SCO. Ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulatory requirements and internal organization policies. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE

including Certificates, Licenses and Registrations. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or related field required.

Preferred:

Master’s Degree in Finance or

MBA. 7-10

years of banking or financial industry experience specializing in commercial lending and risk management. Proficiency in MS Office products A detailed-oriented person with an analytical mind and the ability to make accurate and complete examinations of credit records, financials, legal documentation and adherence to governmental regulations.

To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
