Job Description Under the guidance and supervision of theChief Operating Officer and consistent with the ChristianPrinciples and Mission of the YMCA, the Aquatics and AssistantSports Director is responsible for administering all aquaticsprograms according to the YMCA Aquatic Program Model and consistentwith American Red Cross aquatics safety and certification bestpractices, management of all aquatics staff members, procurement ofall aquatics equipment, and maintenance of all equipment andfacilities related to the aquatics programs. This includespromoting teamwork, setting a positive can-do example for others,always emphasizing safe aquatics operations, planning and executingregular in-service training, personnel management, programdevelopment and execution, budget development, and management,active participation in annual fundraising activities, marketingactivities, and soliciting of sponsorships for aquatic relatedprograms. Additional responsibilities include Assistant SportsDirector to provide support of Y Without Walls program, as well asyouth and adult sports through coordination with the ChiefOperating Officer. Qualifications Bachelors degree and/or two yearsof aquatics operations supervisory and management experience.

Experience in conducting or supervising aquatics and youth sportsprograms. Experience in preparing and managing an annual budget.

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability towork as a team member and a leader. Ability to work with a widevariety of people and work cross-functionally with variousdepartments within the organization. Professional appearance andbehavior. Ability to prioritize, and maintain confidentiality.

Effective interpersonal communication and human relations skills.

Essential Functions Must be committed to the Mission, Core Valuesand Focus Areas both on and off the job. Must keep safety, quality,and cleanliness as top priorities at all times. Work in harmonywith volunteers, fellow directors and paid staff toward deliveringa superior member/participant experience. Ability to work as a partof the YMCA team and consistently deliver top-quality service andprogram offerings to our members. Must have an insurable drivingrecord in order to occasionally drive YMCA vehicles such as van orbuses. As part of the YMCA leadership team, work continually tohelp the YMCA achieve “best practice” performance in all areas.

Represent the association in Program committee and advisorymeetings as required. Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officerto develop, implement, and support plans for aquatics operations,processes and personnel in order to accommodate the growthobjectives for our organization. Ability to creatively developaquatics-related programs for fitness and water safety for allages. Ability to creatively develop youth and adult sports-relatedprograms. Lead the overall management of YMCA Swim Team to includebut not limited to recruitment, training of coaches, coordinationwith other regional swim organizations, and coordination withmarketing. Motivate and lead a high-performance aquatics team oflifeguards, coaches, supervisors, instructors and volunteers.

Attract, recruit and retain required members of the aquatics teamas dictated by operational requirements; provide mentoring as acornerstone to the management career development program. Monitordaily pool operations and conditions to adhere to all state, localand YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintain accurate recordsof pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Responsible forproviding all certifications for CPR/AED and First Aid to thechildcare, child watch, fitness, and sports employees. Manage andschedule instructors for private lessons, semi-private lessons andgroup lessons. Provide the appropriate training for swiminstructors to deliver a quality service of swim lesson instructionthrough the curriculum taught by the American Red CrossLearn-To-Swim Program or YMCA swim programs. Conduct and coordinateproper maintenance of pools, coordinate scheduling of poolfacilities, properly secure pool facilities, and ensure closecoordination with Property Director for all maintenance andfacility-related issues. Be prepared to assist as lifeguard on dutywhen necessary to assist operational aquatics requirements. Assumeother responsibilities as assigned.

Required Certifications Current American RedCross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. Certified PoolOperator. Lifeguard Instructor Certification. Swim Instructorcertification from YMCA, American Red Cross Learn to Swim, orsimilar program preferred.
