06/25/2025 The Stage Director is solely responsible for the artistic unity of the production, beginning with the selection of the play, based on his/her overall concept or vision. His/hers is the final responsibility for every aspect of the show, including, but not limited to, the overall look, the specific characterizations and staging, the music, dance, set, props, costumes, lighting, and sound. He/she supervises the creation of all design plans; all actors are under his/her direction. Responsibilities also include any or all of the following:
Reading and choosing a musical
Securing the rights to present the musical from the royalty house or publisher-agent,
Budgeting
Forming a production team
Production meetings
Organizing auditions, parent meeting and contracts
Scheduling rehearsals and creating calendars
Securing the rehearsal venues
Rehearsal process and preparation
Financial accounting of the show’s expenses and revenues. Set Design (cooperative process)
