Job Description
Associate Director (Media Relations, Americas) (White & Case LLP, New York, NY)Support media relations programs for multiple Americas-based practice areas and industry groups. Handle the media relations effort for many of the Firm’s largest and most prolific practice areas, including M&A, Debt Finance, Antitrust, and FRI. Provide media relations counsel to senior management, partners, other lawyers, department heads, and others as required. Influence management and partners by providing more effective media relations approaches to help them achieve their goals. Work directly with the Firm’s Global Head of Communications and Media Relations Director on Firm-wide press initiatives in the Americas. Develop innovate ways to increase overall visibility of the Firm, practice and partners in the press. Support the Firm’s multi-year growth strategy by creating and driving media relations programs with an emphasis on forward planning, coordination and success metrics. Develop key messages for senior management, practice leaders and other partners. Draft and distribute press releases and create communications vehicles to deliver Firm news externally. Provide advice and guidance to Business Development colleagues and partners that ensures alignment between media relations and business development activities. Work closely with Internal Communications and Marketing Communications teams to ensure issues and strategies are effectively coordinated and managed. Present media relations strategies and results to senior management, Americas Regional Section Heads and other areas of the Firm. Telecommuting may be permitted up to 2 days per week. When not telecommuting, must report to White & Case LLP at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020.
Salary:
$263,078 to $295,000 per year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as a Public Relation Manager, Media Relation Director, Communications Manager, or any occupation/position/job title involving corporation communications planning, media relation, and public relation in professional or law firm setting. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of experience, employer will accept 3 years of post-secondary studies in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field, plus 6 years of professional experience as a Public Relations Manager, Media Relations Director, Communications Manager, or any occupation/position/job title involving corporate communications planning, media relations, and public relations in a professional or law firm setting.
Must also have experience in the following: 5 years of professional experience developing and delivering public relations programs in the legal industry including experience with providing counsel on M&A and litigation matters; 5 years of professional experience providing media training to senior stakeholders and developing junior team members handling Public Relations matters; 5 years of professional experience using media relations to support business development objectives and position spokespeople as legal thought leaders in their areas of expertise; 5 years of professional experience influencing multiple stakeholders and dealing with changing priorities in the law firm context; and 5 years of professional experience providing issues and crisis management counsel in the legal industry with focus on reputational risk mitigation.
