POSITION SUMMARY
The Sports Director provides leadership as a subject matter expert and oversees sports-related programming to meet specific association objectives. The incumbent is responsible for developing, organizing, delivering, and administering sports leagues, recreation programs and activities targeted toward youth, teen and adults in assigned service areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands sports programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits. Maintains fields/gyms owned by YMCA. Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches. Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials and supervisors; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines, and handbooks. Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs. Organizes and conducts sports clinics and summer sports camps. Assists in the marketing and distribution of sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. Leads Sport Quality Team meetings. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent. One to two years related experience preferred, including staff supervision. Must have basic computer skills. Must complete of the following trainings within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Sexual Harassment training. Must complete within 60 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen certification. Must have the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
