News Director Job Summary:

The Director/Production Assistant plays a key role in delivering high-quality, technically sound newscasts and creative commercial productions for WRCB. This position combines hands-on directing, producing, and supervising responsibilities to ensure smooth broadcasts. The ideal candidate will be organized, resourceful, and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines with excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct live and pre-recorded newscasts with technical precision and creative flair (approx. 45% of time). Direct special programs or non-news productions as needed (5%). Participate in preproduction meetings with producers, anchors, and reporters to ensure creative and accurate broadcasts. (5%) Operate and maintain control room and post-production equipment. Support field production operations for ST Production Services, and News projects.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma required. College coursework or degree in Broadcasting, Communications, Media Production, or related field is preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in television production (camera, audio, teleprompter, directing). At least 1 year of experience as a director with automated broadcast systems. Experience with Ross Video – Overdrive systems is preferred .

Skills & Competencies:

Strong working knowledge of: Video switchers Audio consoles Lighting and microphones Automated broadcast systems Ability to manage and supervise technical production teams. High attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality. Effective under pressure and on deadline in a fast-paced broadcast environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with multiple departments.

Working Conditions & Schedule:

Requires flexibility with working hours, including: Weekends, nights, some holidays Occasional overtime and emergency scheduling Must be available to work during severe weather and unscheduled station needs.
