$48.7K – $61.9K a year 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Qualifications Nutrition HIPAA Mid-level Master’s degree Food Science Bachelor’s degree Food service Sports Registered Dietitian 1 year Communication skills Time management Full Job Description The Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition provides individual and group/team nutrition services, including counseling and education, to enhance the health and performance of student-athletes competing on behalf of the athletic department as assigned. Assist with the provision of nutrition and dietitian-related services, including working directly with student-athletes and teams as assigned. Counsel student-athletes on optimal nutrition for training, competition, recovery, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation. Conduct nutritional assessments and screenings for individuals and teams, including assessing and analyzing dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance in the context of athletic performance and health. Implement team nutrition plans, including consultation on team meals and snacks based on schedule and activities. Collaborate with sport coaches, strength and conditioning staff, sports medicine staff, and related student-athlete service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to training, nutrition, and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of diet and nutrition-related medical issues. Plan and implement nutritional strategies for fueling and recovery for select teams. Collaborate with the training table staff and assist in the management of menu development, preparation, meal deliveries, and team meal schedules. Coordinate and plan team meals as needed. Communicate with team physician and director of sports medicine to research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, distribute, and monitor permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to NCAA and IOC rules, regulations, and nutrition-related bylaws. Conduct body composition assessments by utilizing and maintaining appropriate technology (i.e. Bodpod). Assist in the management of fueling station operations, including scheduling, procurement, ordering, receiving, and inventory. Manage and mentor undergraduate student volunteers, fueling station employees, and interns. Travel with teams as required. Other duties as assigned. Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements. Stays abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.

Required Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition Science, Dietetics, or a related field. Registered Dietitian via the American Dietetic Association; Tennessee State Licensure or Licensure eligible

Experience:

Completion of a dietetic internship supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Minimum of 1 year of experience working in collegiate athletics as a GA, Fellow, Intern, etc., or in a comparable setting working directly with elite athletes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, computer, organizational, and time-management skills. Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy and counseling techniques. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and work within a team. Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and counseling skills. Ability to be understanding, sympathetic, and positive in approach when working with student-athletes and coaches. Ability to work with a diverse staff and athletic population to provide a culture of openness, acceptance, opportunity, and respect. Knowledge of and compliant with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: e.g., NCAA, SEC, USADA, WADA.

Preferred Qualifications Education:

Master’s degree

Experience:

Two years of experience working as a sports dietitian in collegiate athletics or in a comparable setting working directly with elite athletes preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to accurately measure body weight and accurately assess body composition. Ability to accurately assess and evaluate energy balance and needs. Knowledge of food service quality and safety procedures.
