To perform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized photographic equipment to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of diseases of the eye. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in a health care related field and one (1) year of health care related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:
Prefer Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) by the Ophthalmic Photographer’s Society Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology of the eye. Knowledge of standard and digital-based photographic techniques, materials, processes and equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to perform complex ophthalmic imaging and film/computer processing activities associated with specialized photographic procedures such as stereo fundus slit lamp, and angiography. Responsibilities Performs fluorescein angiography to study the circulation of the posterior and anterior segment of the eye using specialized film and digital cameras. Performs laboratory tests and documents results; prepares materials and digital images for research, publication and/or teaching purposes. Performs retinal and slit-lamp/external photography to identify retinal diseases and anomalies. Develops optical coherence tomography (OCT) images; operates a-scan/keratometer to measure the axial length of the eye and calculate the corneal curvature. Conducts secular microscopy/endothelial cell counts. Maintains ophthalmic imaging equipment, film, darkroom, and eye bank resources; ensures proper functioning of equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
