Production & Facilities Manager The Growing Stage:
The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey 7 Ledgewood Ave, Netcong, NJ 07857 Responsible, under the direction of the Executive Director, for the management of productions including scheduling, staffing, tech, and facility maintenance. The Production & Facilities Manager works closely with production designers to ensure work is completed on time and on budget as well as providing practical assistance as needed. The Production & Facilities Manager is present for all events. This is a full-time, salaried position.
- Develop and maintain the master production calendar.
- Oversee scheduling and staffing of all aspects of show production.
- Lead production meetings and attend technical and dress rehearsals for Mainstage and Studio Series productions.
- Coordinate with staff on all other non-theatrical events such as galas, concerts, festivals, classes, camps, readings, and facility rentals to ensure all production and technical needs are met. This may include lighting/sound design, stage management, and board operation.
- Work with Designers to creatively solve technical and financial challenges. Ensure work is completed on time and on budget and provide practical assistance as needed including painting and construction.
- Sound/projection design and programming, working with the Director and Stage Manager.
- Plan, develop, and oversee maintenance of the Palace Theatre.
- Ensure production shops and rehearsal spaces are up to date and in good working order.
- Make capital improvement purchase recommendations and assist with procurement.
- Minor maintenance such as changing lightbulbs, mopping, organizing storage spaces, and, stocking bathrooms.
- Ensure garbage cans are emptied frequently and recycling is driven to the recycling center as needed.
- Track inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
- Call and schedule contract maintenance as needed – plumbers, electricians, landscaping, etc.
- Schedule yearly fire extinguisher and alarm inspections. Ensure facility meets all fire code rules and work with the Fire Inspector during inspections to promptly fix any issues.
- Schedule cleanings and ensure cleanliness in between professional cleans.
- Arrive at least two hours prior to all shows. Check for proper setup including chairs, outdoor signs, stanchions, and building temperature.
- Assist with pre-show tasks or front of house duties as needed.
- Assist the Stage Manager with any back of house or technical issues that may occur.
- After the show is over assist the volunteers and other staff with end of show duties to include: sweeping and mopping the floor, straightening or putting away chairs, taking out the garbage, restocking and light cleaning of the bathrooms, bringing in outdoor signs, vacuuming the lobby, charging iphones and ipads, and ensuring everything is restored to pre-show conditions.
Strong knowledge and hands on experience in technical theatre and expertise with theatre equipment and tools. Equipment used in this position are Mac OS & Windows PC, Yamaha sound board, ETC lighting, and fly system controls along with general physical tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, saws, etc. Experience with Google Suite and QLab. Proficiency in set construction and painting, lighting design, and sound design. Must have strong organization, time management, and problem solving skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks each day, perform with attention to detail and with a high degree of professionalism. Must be reliable and dependable, with a strong sense of responsibility and follow-through Good phone etiquette along with strong typing, writing, and grammatical skills in formulating correspondence with designers, artists, and vendors. Should generally exhibit positive attitude, be a good communicator, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be discreet with privileged and sensitive organizational and financial information. This position frequently requires medium to heavy work. Ability to lift 50 pounds and meet physical demands of the position including constant standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing and frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing are required to fulfill the essential job responsibilities. Must be available to work full-time including events on evenings and weekends. Due to the nature of our business, there are times when employees will be required to work weekends, continuous days with long hours, and may work more than 40 hours during certain weeks. Every attempt is made to keep these occasions to a minimum by allowing for flex days off and schedule adjustments based around the theatre schedule. There is no regular mass transportation available so must have own reliable transportation. This is a salaried position of $45,000 plus fully employer-paid medical and dental insurance.
