The Times Union is looking for a Capitol Bureau Producer for Growth and Programming who will play an integral role in building audience and planning cross-platform coverage for its Capitol Confidential politics product. This role involves hands-on journalism as well as audience development — ideal for a sharp journalist who thrives in a digital news environment with the spirit of a startup. The successful candidate will report to the Times Union’s managing editor overseeing the Capitol Bureau and collaborate with producers and reporters to drive a cross-platform content and engagement strategy. Our operations are based at the state Capitol in Albany, a uniquely competitive media and political arena that is frequently chaotic but never boring. What you’ll do: Contribute to the award-winning journalism produced by the Times Union’s Capitol Bureau.
Editorial Planning:
Organize and collaborate on programming efforts, including virtual and in-person events.
Production Assistance:
Help manage products, execution of content on growth channels while being nimble for breaking news.
Broad Vision:
Oversee content performance of product(s) across platforms.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Capitol Bureau editor and reporters, and be able to help edit, package and coordinate with stakeholders through the organization.
Platform Planning:
Help tailor content for multiple platforms — broadcast, digital, mobile and social — ensuring consistency and audience engagement with the goal of growing audience and impact.
Standards and Ethics:
Uphold journalistic integrity and compliance with legal and ethical guidelinesPer applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York. The reasonable estimate, if hired is $65,000-$75,000. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.,
