Sports Reporter Position Available In Saline, Arkansas

Sports Reporter Saline Courier Benton, AR 72019 This position requires a multi-media sports enthusiast interested in covering daily county-wide sports news focused on high school sports; including breaking news, game analysis, and sports feature stories. Story pagination, presentation and visuals are an important part of delivery across all platforms. The Saline Courier sports reporter must quickly build contacts vital to gathering verifiable sports news and have reporting, writing and pagination skills to create and design sports pages for print publications and online delivery. Duties and Responsibilities Interview, gather, write and edit sports news daily following AP style Work closely with editor to best design and present sports news in the daily newspaper Build and maintain excellent relationships and communication with sports leaders and the local sports community. Implement a social media strategy that aligns with the editorial/news strategy of sharing news Work and coordinate sports stringers; gather sports news daily and within budget Promote positive image of the newspaper and support its initiatives Collaborate and work effectively with other departments and the Horizon team Practice effective time-management for copy flow, page design, production, printing Other duties as assigned Requirements and qualifications Higher education and experience in Journalism or Communications; accomplished news writer or editor; and experience using computers and content management systems for print and digital delivery is a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Superb social media skills Strong writing, editing, AP style and libel law skills Proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and other news design programs as well as Microsoft Office Deep understanding of digital and print media Strong communication and interpersonal skills Good customer relations skills with the ability to easily and professionally speak and work with readers and the public daily. Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines Knowledge of Saline County and surrounding cities a plus Physical Requirement Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; close eye work on computer screen; required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop; light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds. The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is often subject to outside environmental conditions. Local travel is required.
