Baton Rouge, LA The Advocate is seeking a digital-savvy journalist who will serve as the high school sports reporter in the Baton Rouge area. We’re looking for a versatile journalist who can break news, write in-depth features and use social media in a way that helps grow our audience in a competitive market in South Louisiana. The position is based in Baton Rouge and will be part of a sports staff that is spread across four publications – The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, The Advocate in Baton Rouge, The Acadiana Advocate in Lafayette and The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate. In this role, you’ll be working in a community that consistently produces some of the nation’s top young athletes. You’ll employ an audience-focused approach to your coverage of high school sports with a focus on breaking news, engaging features and analysis. You should embrace working in a collaborative newsroom environment, and identifying new ways to make sure your content reaches its audience. In this role, you will: Develop sources and break news in relation to high school sports in the Baton Rouge area Maintain consistent communication with editors Closely monitor data analytics to understand what our audience wants on the prep sports beat Play a lead role in The Advocate’s Star of Stars special section, which recognizes the area’s top prep athletes and contribute to production of awards show Be a strong storyteller, introducing fans to the athletes they should get to know Build good relationships with coaches and other administrators at local high schools The Advocate is an equal employment opportunity employer, committed to recruiting, developing, and promoting a diverse workforce while providing unique opportunities and career paths for our employees.
