Overview Technical Writer – Temporary ~6 Month position Offset Strategic Services (OSS) is seeking an experienced Technical Writer with a strong background supporting military weapons systems. The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing and updating technical manuals, operating procedures, and maintenance documentation. This role requires a clear understanding of Department of Defense (DoD) documentation standards, excellent writing and editing skills, and hands-on familiarity with the systems being documented.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, edit, and maintain technical manuals, user guides, system operations procedures, and maintenance documents for weapons systems Translate complex technical data and engineering inputs into clear, concise, and accurate documentation Ensure all documentation complies with applicable military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-40051, MIL-DTL-87929, or S1000D if applicable) Collaborate with engineers, subject matter experts, and program managers to gather technical information Review and update existing documentation to reflect system upgrades, software changes, or field feedback Manage document version control and configuration management in accordance with program requirements Prepare supporting graphics, tables, and diagrams for inclusion in technical documents
Basic Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship required Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in technical writing, with direct experience supporting DoD weapons systems Proficiency in MS Office Suite and technical publishing tools (such as Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker, XML/SGML-based systems) Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines Familiarity with Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) concepts and logistics data products
BS Degree Preferred Qualifications:
Former military experience or direct field exposure to the weapons system being documented Ability to interpret engineering drawings, system schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) Knowledge of Configuration Management processes and tools Offset Strategic Services, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
