The Referral Coordinator supports MedFlorida Medical Centers by coordinating specialty care for patients in need of external consultation/testing as requested by the Primary Care Physician. The role of each Referral Coordinator is to work efficiently and effectively with insurance companies and care providers to share essential patient information. A. Essential Duties Process patient referrals for Specialist visits by organizing and preparing the patient’s medical records and history with detailed clinical documentation. Compile and document accurately information concerning patient’s clinical background and referral needs. Obtain insurance authorizations for patient referrals to Specialists, diagnostic testing, and procedures. Communicate effectively when authorization request is denied by the patient’s insurance to the Primary Care Physician and the office. Ensure that referrals are addressed in a timely manner while prioritizing urgent items appropriately. Maintain detailed and accurate documentation for patient referrals in the electronic medical record system. Acts as a resource for patients and/or providers who have questions, comments, or concerns relating to patient referrals. Provide general administrative and clerical support to medical offices, as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and quality care. Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation to promote and ensure patient health

Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or university, with major in business, marketing, health care or related field preferred.

A comparable amount of experience would be acceptable.

Experience:
  • Experience in medical field is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of government CMS regulatory requirements is preferred.
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
  • eClinicalWorks electronic medical records system knowledge a plus.
