Description:

The Technical Writer/Editor will support the MacDill AFB 6th Communications Squadron by developing and maintaining a wide range of technical and user-focused documentation. This role is crucial for ensuring clear, concise, and accurate communication of cybersecurity policies, IT standard operating procedures (SOPs), and squadron initiatives to both technical and non-technical audiences. The Technical Writer will establish and maintain documentation standards, contributing to the overall efficiency and knowledge management of the squadron.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical and user documentation, including SOPs, System Security Plans, IT support guides, training aids, disaster recovery plans, and COOP plans. Gather information from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and organize it into clear, accessible, and accurate documentation. Translate complex technical concepts into language understandable by various audiences, including non-technical personnel and leadership. Create and manage content for different platforms, including print materials and online repositories like SharePoint. Develop and deliver training aids for new squadron members and for end-users explaining services and support request processes. Fully document all cybersecurity policies consistent with higher-level directives and local guidance, creating reference handouts for end-users. Establish and maintain a consistent “brand/style ” for all squadron documents, training aids, and reference materials. Centralize all SOPs and other key documentation onto the 6 CS official records drive or other designated repositories. Assist in preparing presentations, briefings, and other communication materials (e.g., public affairs signage, banners) for squadron leadership and initiatives. Provide bi-weekly progress updates to squadron leadership and participate in vector checks. Support the documentation of RMF-related activities and potentially assist with drafting elements of security documentation like POA&Ms, SSPs, and CONOPS.

Required Skills/Education/Certifications:

Active Secret security clearance (minimum interim Secret at time of proposal submission, full Secret required for performance) to read/edit classified documents periodically. Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Information Science, Cybersecurity, or other relative area of study. At least 1 year of relevant experience supporting similar technical writing and documentation requirements, preferably for a Department of Defense mission area. Proven ability to write, edit, and format a variety of technical documents clearly and concisely. Strong skills in interviewing SMEs to gather technical information and translate it effectively. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint. Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills. Familiarity with DoD/DAF publications, end-user policies, and compliance methods. Knowledge of Air Force communication squadron culture. Ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Desired Skills/Education/Certifications:

CompTIA Security+ certification Experience creating documentation within a cybersecurity or IT operational environment. Familiarity with RMF processes and related documentation (SSPs, POA&Ms, SARs). Experience developing training materials and user guides for technical systems or processes. Knowledge of graphic design principles or experience creating visually appealing informational materials.
