All faculty teach courses at all levels. The successful candidate will join a thriving program in Creative Writing as one of two full-time Writers in Residence. Our program in Creative Writing is a valuable part of the English major, and Fiction and Nonfiction writing courses are very much in demand among our students. Our student writers take Creative Writing courses alongside literature courses, and they benefit from one-on-one mentoring relationships with our Writers in Residence. We are proud of the success of this program, which has launched many careers. Creative Writing events on campus include readings by students, the biennial Daniel Klagsbrun Symposium, and other events and readings by writers including Jhumpa Lahiri, Ocean Vuong, Amy Tan, David Sedaris, Art Spiegelman, Edwidge Danticat, Suzan-Lori Parks, and others. Strong candidates are those who address-in their creative practice and/or in their classroom-power inequities regarding pressing issues such as race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, socioeconomic or immigration status, etc. Our department strongly encourages candidates from groups underrepresented in the arts and academia to apply. We are committed to increasing the diversity of our major and serving historically underrepresented student populations. The teaching load for a full-time visitor is five courses per academic year.
