ABOUT THE ROLE E. H.
Gentry Facility is one of the most distinct and comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs in the United States. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to a championship philosophy that underscores the genuine belief in and potential of all individuals. This position will work in a specialized classroom with students who are blind, visually impaired, DeafBlind, and/or multi-disabled. The right candidate for this job will have a passion for working with students and colleagues to ensure all students receive a world-class education. The successful candidate will provide instruction to students in preparing for the GED test, including content areas of Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science; must demonstrate familiarity with the testing guidelines and requirements, forms and documentation, and procedures for the Non-Traditional High School Diploma Options (HSDO); will provide academic remediation to improve student performance on standardized tests such as WorkKeys, Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), Mobilizing Alabama Pathways (MAPS), Alabama Career Essentials (ACE), Accuplacer, etc.; will provide tutoring services to students attending colleges and universities in our Dual Enrollment program; provide instruction to students learning braille; and will plan and assist in the development and implementation of field trips, extracurricular, and special activities as requested among other interesting responsibilities!
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited university/college. Possess a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate. Proven ability to apply research-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other technologies. Demonstrated ability to develop lesson plans, plans of instruction (POIs), and individualized program plans (IPPs) in formats compatible with E. H. Gentry’s database and AAESAP (Alabama Adult Education System for Accountability and Performance). Proven ability to prepare and maintain daily records, monthly progress reports, staffing reports, other required documentation, and monthly Adult Education reports. Demonstrated experience providing classroom/on-site supervision and management to insure a safe and effective learning environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education with a certification in visual Impairment (TVI). One (1) year or more of classroom experience. Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of instructional practices that incorporate distance learning strategies and platforms.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
: Must obtain an Alabama Teaching Certificate in Special Education with a certification in visual Impairment (TVI) within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment. Must obtain Library of Congress National Library Service in Unified English Braille Transcriber Certification OR obtain National Certification in Unified English Braille (NCUEB) within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment. Certifications must remain active throughout employment. Modify tests to accommodate the individuals’ vision loss. Input data, attendance, and reports into the Gentry Salesforce database. Participate in accreditation reviews and activities through CARF (Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities. Learn to adapt workflow to accommodate individuals who are Blind, Deaf, DeafBlind, or multi-disabled.
