CAACE:
The Executive Director is responsible for administering the work of the Connecticut Adult & Continuing Education Association (CAACE) as it strives to meet its Mission. The Director is responsible for implementing the policies, goals and objectives as stipulated in the by-laws. The Director reports to the Executive Board who shall have the responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of this position. The Director must be prepared to travel statewide and nationally. The Director shall be provided such compensation and consideration as is outlined in the Work Agreement appended to this Job Description. CAACE Program Management Lead daily operations so as to advocate for the increased quality of adult and community education in Connecticut. Actively promote cooperative efforts between adult education and organizations with similar missions, and shall provide leadership for statewide and national adult education efforts. Develop and implement a fund development plan to meet budget / insurance needs, including researching and securing funding from sponsors, private, state, and federal sources, in conjunction with the Executive Board. Maintain a comprehensive communications plan including the assistance, supervision, preparation and distribution of all newsletters, brochures, and other such materials as may be developed for communicating the mission and business. Be available for in-person and virtual consultations and meetings with adult education providers, the State Department of Education, legislators, and other stakeholders. Attend all relevant meetings—both in-person and virtual—including but not limited to CAACE Board Meetings, CAACE Conference planning meetings, and state and national adult education events, with the expectation of in-person attendance when it best supports the goals and outcomes of the organization.. Develop agendas for all Board meetings in consultation with the Board President and Executive Board Members including an annual report for board members. Maintain and grow the current membership database; assess annual membership fees and recommend any necessary adjustments. Lead the development of a membership packet—in collaboration with the Executive Board and Membership Committee—that communicates the responsibilities of CAACE to its members and the benefits of membership, particularly for outreach to non-public school programs. Ensure that CAACE has a robust marketing and social media presence. Work closely with the Communications Committee in implementing the state-wide Marketing Plan. Update social media regularly (at least weekly) to ensure consistent, strategic messaging that aligns with CAACE’s mission, highlights member programs, promotes advocacy efforts, and supports member retention and recruitment. Maintain and update the CAACE website and effectively manage and utilize all CAACE online subscriptions Identify, pursue, and manage grants that support CAACE’s work and mission. Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy to increase CAACE’s revenue. Program Development and Professional Learning Design and lead a statewide mentoring program for new directors of adult education programs to support new director onboarding Hold regional directors’ meetings. Recruit new board members. Collaborate with the Professional Development Committee to implement opportunities for CAACE members, keeping with the strategic goals and mission of the organization Bookkeeping and Financial Oversight Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the organization, including income, expenses, reimbursements, and event-related transactions. Collaborate with the CAACE Treasurer to ensure accurate reporting of financial data, including preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial summaries.
Track income and expenses associated with CAACE-sponsored events, including the annual conference, ensuring timely reconciliation and alignment with approved budgets. Submit financial documentation as needed for audits, grant compliance, and reporting to the CAACE Board. Ensure that all organizational bookkeeping practices comply with established policies, nonprofit financial best practices, and relevant state and federal regulations. Support the development of annual budgets in collaboration with the Treasurer and Board, providing historical financial data and projections to inform decision-making. Technology Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Proficient in website and social media management. Knowledge of Quickbooks or other accounting software, preferred; ability to gain knowledge of accounting software and utilization of said software within 180 days of the start of contract. Governance and Accountability Meet monthly with the Chair of the Finance/Personnel Committee to review progress toward strategic goals and ongoing initiatives Participate in Executive Board meetings and provide regular updates Participate in annual performance evaluation by the Personnel and/or Executive Board Conference Oversight Collaborate with the Conference Committee Chairperson and Conference Committee to ensure successful implementation of the annual conference Serve as Chair and work closely with the Conference Committee in implementing all aspects of the annual Conference. Compensation The compensation for this contract ranges from $75,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications Additional compensation may be awarded based on a percentage of the dollar amount of grant awards received. Such compensation will be determined by the Executive Board. Location and Travel This position allows for a hybrid work model,with required in-person attendance at Board meetings, professional development events, the CAACE annual conference, advocacy engagements, and other scheduled meetings. It will additionally require frequent travel to adult education provider site locations and other venues within the state. Travel within Connecticut may be required on short notice (e.g., within one business day) to support time-sensitive meetings with legislators, partner agencies, or adult education providers. Mileage for in-state travel will be reimbursed at the current IRS standard mileage rate. Reimbursement applies only to travel within Connecticut; mileage originating from out of state is not eligible for reimbursement.
