This position is a vital part of the Division of Holistic Success Services, providing proactive and holistic support to adult learners, with a special focus on student parents and other non-traditional student populations. The Success Coach guides students through academic and continuing education program, offers career exploration opportunities, supports financial readiness, and promotes overall student development. The primary goal of the Success Coach is to increase retention and academic success among adult students through strategic outreach and technology-driven engagement. By helping students—especially nontraditional students—build the capacity to make informed decisions about their education, career, and life, the Success Coach plays a key role in advancing adult student achievement at Forsyth Tech with a two-generation approach.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree.

Note:

Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC . Three years of professional experience counseling/advising/teaching students in an educational environment. Three years or more of experience providing support services to adult, high-need postsecondary students to include outreach, academic and/or career coaching and case management. Experience using technology including Microsoft Office suite and a relational student information system, e.g. Datatel Colleague, Banner, etc. Experience with collaborative and experiential methodologies to improve student learning. Experience collecting, analyzing and acting upon student data. Excellent presentation and computer skills. Ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred:

Master’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university. Three years or more of experience working with adult student populations. Advanced degree in adult education or learning. Demonstrates an understanding of the dynamics of adult learners, working learners, and parenting learners and the importance of cultivating strong partnerships to support their academic and personal success.

Essential Duties Essential Duties:

include the following and other duties as needed Academic Advising Serve as student concierge or guide to all college programs and offices. Provide academic coaching to new, continuing, returning, and prospective adult students; explain policies, procedures, and program requirements in a variety of modalities. Review, interpret, and evaluate adult student applicant test scores and other information to determine eligibility status. Maintain current knowledge of curriculum and continuing education or workforce development programs and review/analyze student retention and success data. Inform students within curriculum and continuing education programs about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major and/or transfer institution). Monitor course enrollment and convey recommendations to appropriate staff regarding enrollment, restrictions, availability, wait-listing, or closure based on program demand and course availability. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement to all services for academic advising purposes and integrate practices and technology aimed at improving adult student service. Work closely with adult students assigned academic advisor and other care team members to provide an extra layer of support for adult students. Works closely with a defined caseload of non=traditional adult learners, providing personalized support and guidance to address their unique academic, career, and life challenges. Develop and implement student follow-up procedures from one academic term to another, including program goals and objectives. Meet divisional benchmarks for student engagement through semester lifecycle, early semester engagement, midterm and advising, and finish-strong campaigns. Financial Literacy Support & Intentional Career Exploration Advise students regarding eligibility for all federal, state and local financial aid programs within the requirements of federal and state regulations by telephone, email and in person, using the College’s computer software program (Datatel Colleague). Assist students in creating a financial plan based on each student’s academic and career aspirations. Provide guidance to adult students individually and within group settings regarding career decisions, degree plans, and transfer opportunities. Identify skill gaps and advise students on relevant workforce programs to meet their needs. Assist students with identifying prior learning assessment opportunities by evaluating industry-level credentials or job experience and referring students for assessment as appropriate. Student Monitoring & Technology Engagement Use student success platform software to maintain records, facilitate correspondence, and develop tools to be used in advising activities. Communicate with students in response to early alerts issued by instructor, identify appropriate intervention strategies and guide students towards solutions to address challenges. Provide initial assessment, appropriate referral, case management and interventions for all students. Respond to faculty and staff requests for student interventions. Identify key risk factors and student groups within caseload and provide appropriate intervention that is prioritized. Participate in individual and team professional development, remains current with technology used to provide advising services. Utilize student platforms including Colleague to register students for classes. Collaboration & Problem Solving Act as liaison between the NC Reconnect program/adult learner success team, faculty, staff, and students in the instructional programs. Work in a team environment and collaborate with units throughout the college to reduce retention challenges and to improve successes of adult students. Develop and promote internal communication and resource sharing in order to benefit adult and parenting student success. Collaborates with cross-functional teams across the college to develop and implement programming for adult learners and student parents, using a second-generation approach that supports both the student and their family. Assigned College Operations Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekend hours consistent with college needs at one or more campus centers. Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities in support of the NC Reconnect and

NC SPARC

(Student Parent Advocacy Resource Center), and other non-traditional adult learner populations.
