Educator 4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 7350 Little Neck Pkwy, Glen Oaks, NY 11004 About Queens County Farm Museum Queens County Farm Museum (QCFM) is one of the longest continually farmed sites in New York State, celebrating 325 years of farming in 2022. Today, the farm serves as a vital resource connecting people to agriculture and the environment creating conversations about biodiversity, nutrition, health and wellness, climate change and preserving local history. QCFM is a New York City Landmark, on the National Register of Historic Places and a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City. QCFM also hosts a wide variety of educational field trips, public events and adult education programs. Job Description QCFM seeks Educators to help facilitate one or more of our Education and Public Programs offerings:

  • Onsite morning programs: school-to-farm class trips, virtual tours
  • Offsite after school programs
  • Onsite scouting programs
  • Onsite camps
  • Saturday educational gardening programs in our teaching gardens
  • Educators facilitate all aspects of our visitors’ experience, including:
  • Coordinating group arrivals and departures
  • Leading demonstrations and interactive experiences for students. (Our educational programs teach students about sustainable and regenerative farming, the food system, healthy eating, heritage livestock, environmental stewardship and colonial American history.   • Ensuring that all QCFM visitors have an educational and enjoyable experience

  • Educators work in a part-time capacity with a weekday work schedule that varies (morning vs. afternoon) based on programming. Qualifications & Experience
  • A quick-learner with a friendly personality
  • Ability to independently lead outdoor tours for groups of 25-40 youth and adults
  • Comfortable leading interactive presentations (familiarity w/ Google Apps, Microsoft Office preferred)
  • Experience working with diverse elementary, middle, and high school students
  • Background in early childhood education and/or with special needs populations preferred
  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, urban farming, and incorporating or creating STEM lesson plans
  • Passion for history, plant and animal sciences, and inquiry-based learning
  • Experience leading virtual programs via Zoom or comparable platforms
  • Desire to collaborate with colleagues in a team environment
  • Physical ability to ride tractor-drawn hayride wagons, lift 25 pounds, set-up and breakdown workshops
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors, rain or shine
  • Additional paid opportunities available upon interest for our weekend public events and site rentals

Hours & Compensation This is a part-time position, up to 20+ hours per week, starting at $20/hour. Possibility for additional opportunities during weekend events in Fall.
