QUALIFICATIONS:

Appropriate Alabama Teacher Certification in Horticulture or Agriscience, OR Eligible for a Provisional Certificate in a Teaching Field (PCTF) (alternative certificate) in Agriscience Education with a college major in Agriscience/Agriculture/Horticulture from a regionally accredited college or university. Must have a minimum 2.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the undergraduate degree. Persons with Master’s Degrees must have a minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants should attach their Bachelor’s degree transcript to their online application to be considered for employment. Applicants who will be new employees must take and pass (if not already taken) the Agriculture Praxis Exam (5701) and the Core Academic Skills for

Educators:

Combined Test (5751) within the first year of employment (by June 1). Expenses for exams are borne by the teacher. Applicants who are existing teachers must have the Praxis taken and passed before a transfer can be approved. Those applicants without a valid Alabama Certificate are required to take and pass four designated college courses in a two year period for continued employment and those costs are borne by the teacher. The duties include but are not limited to: Provides related instruction with shop, laboratory, or other occupational experience that is appropriate to the career objectives of the student.
Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
Provides instruction that is realistic in terms of current and future job specifications.
Develops career related instructional materials and assists in the placement of students.
Updates technical skills yearly as required by Business and Industry Certification.
Works with an advisory committee, meeting twice yearly and actively participates in Business and Industry Certification.
Works with guidance personnel in the recruitment of students.
Assists students to make informed decisions regarding their occupational goals.
Exhibits positive human relations skills.
Maintains and submits records and reports.
Maintains an environment which is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping and student behavior.
Completes annual compliance report.
Conducts follow-up on graduates from the program and maintains records of their placement.
Prepares annual budgets, orders instructional supplies and equipment according to district procedures and maintains inventory records as required.

Salary Range:

From/To As per State Salary Matrix, depending on degree and experience. Bachelor’s beginning pay – $47,600.00.
Additional Job Information •Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
